Description

The Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) is the leading international cooperation group of developing countries vulnerable to climate change. Founded in 2009 by 11 nations it currently numbers 48 member states. CVF members advocate strong action on climate change by all countries.

The earth we live on, its oceans, forests, rivers, flowers, animals... are our first right as humans.

Use your creativity to impress, shock, and wake up all of those who think that climate change and the conditions of our planet are only something theoretical and not material. Make people see the problem but also the hope and the opportunity that climate action presents in terms of jobs, health and security.

MISSION

The Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) is the leading international cooperation group of developing countries vulnerable to climate change. Founded in 2009 by 11 nations it currently numbers 48 member states. CVF members advocate strong action on climate change by all countries

to stay below 1.5 degrees Celsius and commits its members to striving for 100%

renewable energy by 2030-2050 or earlier.

The CVF will hold its first global Summit at the level of Heads of Government on 22 November 2018 as convened by the incoming CVF president, the Marshall Islands. In light of the great urgency to act, the Summit will provide a platform for the vulnerable countries to speak out on their efforts to “survive and thrive” in the face of climate change, communicating progress, inspiring action and challenging other nations to do more. Leaders of the CVF member states, currently 48 developing countries from Africa, Asia, the Americas and Pacific, will jointly share their stories in a “Talanoa” spirit and be joined by leaders of observer non-member nations in a unique entirely online format event coordinated from Majuro, the Marshallese capital.

The Climate Action Network (CAN), a worldwide network of over 1,300 Non- Governmental Organisations, is supporting the CVF in organizing the Summit.

CAN partners include Greenpeace, WWF, CARE International, WRI, Christian Aid, the European Climate Foundation, C40, the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Elders, Stanley Foundation, GSCC, Greenpeace, Christian Aid, and Mission 2020.

Your videos will be an important CVF content, able to inspire the participants and all the networks involved.

CALL TO ACTION

What is going to happen to planet earth? What are the consequences of global warming? What does climate change really represent to us? Most importantly what is the situation in vulnerable communities? These are not necessarily far away places but any community threatened by floods, heatwaves, storms, hurricanes and droughts.

Sometimes, we feel these are matters for scientists, technicians, and experts - And it is for them… but we also have a massive power: to urge them to do their job, NOW! To control warming, society and the economy must transform drastically and completely including individual behaviour and choices in transport, the energy we use etc. We must transform the way we do things from the top level with governments shifting financial flows and economic sectors away from fossil fuels and to renewable energy down to each and every one of us the choices we make in our daily lives in transportation and consumption.

The earth we live on, its oceans, forests, rivers, flowers, animals... are our first right as humans.

Climate is vulnerable, but we are strong, and most importantly, we are all connected.

This is the challenge: we want to create a “global video march” for the earth’s rights

It’s urgent, demand it!

Why settle for a planet that gets slightly less beautiful everyday? More polluted, less green… step by step there are entire islands (yes, the ones you love going on holiday to) that will disappear!

We want to have higher ambitions, and fight for a better planet, not one that is getting slightly worse everyday! All leaders came together in Paris in 2015 and agreed to make commitments to keep warming in control to avoid massive impact and threat on the vulnerable. They agreed to strengthen their commitments every 5 years. The commitments made in Paris will not protect vulnerable countries from climate impacts that may destroy them and cause more poverty, migration and insecurity. The CVF summit intents to push that process forward

  • Imagine you wake up one morning unable to breathe.
  • Imagine you have to sleep with a life jacket because you don’t want to drown in your sleep from flooding
  • Imagine water gushing into your bedroom at 3 am while you sleep and you lose everything including your loved ones
  • Imagine waking up thirsty and hungry with no access to water and food after all has been overcome by severe drought
  • Imagine you have to move from the places most dear to you to travel long and dangerous routes only to find closed borders and walls
  • Imagine you have to fight with your neighbour for a drop of water or the last piece of bread
  • Imagine you find out that the river where you used to go with your child has dried up.
  • Imagine the loudest, and most terrifying scream that jolts people awake to do something for the planet.
  • Imagine to be born again and not know what animals are, not learn from them, their wilderness, warmth, their love.
  • Imagine a global manifesto: this is my ocean, this is my forest, this is my park…

Wake up, stand up, poke the box of a world of people and opinion leaders who have decided to accept a project that is leading to the end of life, beauty, nature and animals.

Use your creativity to impress, shock, and wake up all of those who think that climate change and the conditions of our planet are only something theoretical and not material. Make people see the problem but also the hope and the opportunity that climate action presents in terms of jobs, health and security. Show the problem but don’t scare people to the extent where they feel helpless and give up.

Your video will be watched and shared by the most influential people within the climate change global community and will have the chance to leave a sign.

TONE OF VOICE

Be provocative. Be memorable. Be disruptive. Wake people up and make them think, act and pressure their governments. Make climate change something that occupies their psyche as much as does their worry for the safety and well being of their children.

Art, animation, real life, documentary, theatre, monologues, poetry: surprise us, engage us. Make the difference.
